FAQ: sharing and hosting HTML files

Can I host HTML made with Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. pochit takes an HTML file, so it doesn't matter which AI made it. HTML you got from someone else or wrote yourself works the same way.

Can I publish a single index.html file?

Yes. Choose one HTML file and it becomes a share link. It doesn't need to be called index.html or be inside a folder.

Can I put my site online without a server or coding skills?

Yes. All you need is to sign in with a Google account and choose your HTML file. No hosting plan, Git, or command line required.

Where can I host an HTML file for free?

On pochit. Publishing, passwords, replacing files, and deleting pages all cost nothing. That's why pages only stay online for 1, 7, or 30 days.

Can I host an HTML file temporarily?

Yes. Every page on pochit is temporary: it's deleted automatically when the period you chose (1, 7, or 30 days) ends, including the files and their records. To remove it sooner, delete it from the management page.

How many pages can I publish?

Up to 5 pages per account at a time. Expired and deleted pages don't count, so deleting pages you no longer need frees up room for new ones.

Do viewers need an account?

No. Anyone can open the share link. Only the person publishing needs an account.

How do I password-protect an HTML page?

Set a password when you publish it on pochit. The password is checked on the server only and never embedded in the HTML or JavaScript, so viewing the page source won't get anyone past it. A password added with JavaScript alone can be read from the source.

Can I replace the HTML after publishing?

Yes, and the share link stays the same. Replacing files doesn't extend the expiry date.

Does pochit add anything to my page?

A short loading screen appears when the page opens, followed by a small badge in the bottom-right corner for a few seconds. Both disappear on their own, and your HTML isn't modified. Password-protected pages don't show them.

Why can't people open an HTML file I send in Gmail or on their iPhone?

An attached HTML file has to be saved first and then opened in a browser, which is awkward on iPhone and Android. Pages that keep CSS, JavaScript, or images in separate files also won't look right if you only attach the HTML. Send a share link instead, and people just tap to open it.

Can I host an HTML file on Google Drive?

No. Google Drive stopped serving HTML as web pages on August 31, 2016. A Drive share link hands over the file; it doesn't display the HTML as a page. Upload the same file to pochit to get a link that opens it as a page.

What files can I publish?

HTML files. Pages that keep CSS, JavaScript, or images in separate files can be uploaded as a folder or a ZIP. Each file can be up to 5 MB, each site up to 10 MB in total, with up to 200 files.
